Wow! What a great surprise with the weather! Very recently I felt like we were in the Sahara Desert and since this weekend, it’s felt like fall! I love it! The greens love it too! It will be so nice to see the greens at our courses not under stress anymore! I’m sure the greens superintendent at the courses feel a little less stress themselves! This has had to be hard on them! But regardless of this, Melanie Spamer has continued to churn out some very nice courses for us to play! Thank you Melanie!
For those of you who came to the 14th anniversary party at the 57th Fighter Group Restaurant, you were in for a treat. The new owners had renovated it and I really like what they had done to the building. They provided some good food, very good drinks, and just overall, they provided a nice atmosphere. We had a nice attendance with our present members, some potential new members, and some members from the past. Once everyone was there, we also had a raffle which provided some very attractive prizes. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I believe everyone in attendance had a nice time. Thanks to everyone who came and thanks to Karen Price for planning this!
Please check our events calendar on our website. We have some great events coming up in September and October. For labor day weekend, there will be a good group going down to Callaway Gardens. Thanks to John Angelo for arranging this. Sorry I will be out of town because I know it will be a good trip. On September 11th, we will playing at Whitewater Creek. This is one of my favorite courses in the Canongate family. On September 18th, our group will go to Heron Bay. This is another gem we get to play. The Frog is coming up on September 25th. If you haven’t played this golf course, do yourself a favor and don’t miss this one. This may seem redundant, but I really enjoy this course. Then on October 2, the course being served up is Eagles Landing (another really nice course..they used to play the LPGA event there when it was still in Atlanta). Lastly, don’t forget to sign up for the club championship being played on October 9th. This is a lot of fun and it will be played on the Sun City Course near Griffin. There will be 2 competitions available. For those who want to compete for the club championship, there will be a stroke play event which will have 2 different tees depending on handicap(please read more on the web site. And for those who just want to have fun, there will also be a 4 person scramble to compete in. Regardless of which you choose, don’t miss this (it is one of our most attended events all year).
This last subject brings a little sadness to me personally. We need to elect our next president to lead Atlanta Singles Golf next year. The board will submit a candidate for president at the September Monthly Gathering on Monday, September 13th. However, any member in attendance can nominate a candidate from the floor that night as well. Then we will hold the election at our October Gathering, on October 11th, to elect our new president. If you’re wondering why I might be a little sad, it’s because I’ve really enjoyed being your president this year. We’ve grown the membership, made some new friends, and really had a lot of fun this year. I certainly hope the new president’s term will be as rewarding as mine has. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to our success this year!
Hope all is well with everyone and see you on the course!
Greg
