The first annual ASGA Cupid's Reunion at Taco Mac on February 8th was a huge success.  As you all know, we invited former ASGA members, married alumni, current members, new comers, golfer wanna-bees, walk-ins and basically anyone with an interest in golf. We had 76 people attend and 31 were guests. Many of our guests were past members who had been told about the fun we were having and wanted to be part of it, and there were many first time guests who had just heard about us, who also wanted to check us out. But the even better news was, 7 of our attendees decided to become  members that night. We even had a "walk-in" join the club.  How about that? It goes without saying that I want to thank Karen Price and Theresa Siegrist, our membership co-chairs, who were behind this great effort!  Also, stay tuned, as there are several more exciting monthly events, theme parties and social activities for the rest of the year. Check the web site and mark your calendars now as we expect sold-out conditions throughout the year.  There's no telling how much fun we are going to have in 2010 and I can't wait.

As to our  meeting with Tom Alsop, President of the American Singles Golf Association, we had roughly 20 people attend the board meeting. And by the way, I want to thank those who came, especially Jeanne Mayer and Lillyan Moore, who were members of both organizations. We gave Tom the floor to make a case for rejoining the national organization. Once he had cited benefits to rejoining, he took questions from the attendees. I believe after this exchange had taken place, most everyone from our group came to the same conclusion,  Tom had failed to persuade us that it was in our best interest to rejoin. Although we appreciate him coming, we decided if someone wanted to attend the national events, they could pay $70 for the year as members at large and then  pay $60 for Atlanta Singles Golf Association and they were good to go for the year. Unless anything changes, it appears this is how it will be for 2010.

Now for some fun stuff: Please join us at the next monthly gathering on Monday, March 8th. As before, we will be meeting at the Taco Mac at the Prado at 6:30pm. We’re calling this our March Madness. It will be a new member mentoring program. The purpose for this intellectually stimulating golf event is to make those who have not played in any of our events aware of what to expect when they do. Additionally, some other items that will be covered will be how to sign up,  how to get ready to play, golf skills assessment, golf lesson recommendations, and golf etiquette. This is not only for our new members but anyone who wants to improve their knowledge of this great game we all love. Please don’t miss this opportunity! Oh, and for those who would be interested in attending a golf clinic, including playing 9 holes, please check with Bill Wade. Thanks Bill for your efforts!

By the time you read this, we will have played both River Forest and Eagle Watch. These are 2 fine golf courses in the Atlanta area that non-Canongate members and guests are able to play,  and at a discount, due to their affiliation with the Atlanta Singles Golf Association. In March, we will be playing White Water Creek on March 13th and Heron Bay on March 27th. If you haven’t played them, do yourself a favor and take advantage of these opportunities. Please look for the sign-up sheets at our monthly gathering. I want to thank Melanie Spamer and Nancy Tkaczuk, our golf co-chairman, for the fine job they do in arranging these events. As I said last month, this is all happening before we even get to our opening in event in April. If we can just get a break from the weather, who knows what we can do? Oh, and remember, starting in April with our opening event and the future ones, we will be playing several non-Canongate courses, such as Alpharetta Athletic Club – West Course, Woodmont, St Marlo, Reunion, etc.  So stay tuned! Oh yes, Micki Graham, thanks for your help in setting some of  these up.

Well, I’m about out of breath with all these happenings, so I don’t want to wear you out by  telling you all about them but it sure is exciting. For those of you have recently joined or for those who are thinking about it, do  yourself a favor and join us this year in Atlanta Singles Golf Association. You’re going to have a lot of fun and make a many new friends. See you on the 8th!

Thanks,
Greg
